Celebrating our suppliers

Our Charity Golf Day and Dinner was a huge success last week. Delayed from 2020, it was wonderful to see so many people coming together to celebrate the great work that our supply chains do for customers and to raise money for charity. In November we will be celebrating the the best of Property Management in the Insurance and New Home sectors at our inaugural Annual Awards Lunch in London on 11th November. More details on both events are in this month’s newsletter, as well as a profile of our finance team and other news.

MA Group Charity Golf Day and Dinner

Thank you to everyone who attended and supported our Charity Golf Day and Dinner on 23rd September. It was fantastic to be able to resume the event this year and to get everyone together for golf, networking and fund-raising.

The amount raised for the Oxford Young Adult Clinic was almost £14,000. As you can imagine, fund-raising for all charities has been a challenge over the last 18 months, so these funds will go a long way towards re-filling the coffers for this fabulous charity.

Chris Collis was one of the attendees at the golf day – he is a transplant recipient who has benefitted from the great work that the Oxford Young Adult Clinic carries out. He had this to say about the golf day:

“Not sure what I can say about yesterday but it was everything I wanted and more – I’ve put off an operation on my arm because of this!! I had an incredible day playing golf at the Oxfordshire … This really felt like this was the end of my recovery both physically and mentally from my transplant…. The evening was top drawer, Aaron James is a seriously funny man and certainly knows how to work a room. The food was immense and the auctions and raffles were entertaining.

It was so good to catch up with Paul Hayman, Laura Hayman and make many new friends in the evening. I’m so grateful to know these people and love the care and support they give to both me and the Young Adult Clinic in Oxford.”

A better way to do claims management

Annual Awards lunch

We will be celebrating the best of Property Management in the Insurance and New Home sectors at our inaugural Annual Awards Lunch in London on 11th November, and invitations are being sent out to our clients, suppliers and franchisees.

Kevin Keegan will be hosting this well-deserved celebration of the fantastic service that our networks deliver, presenting awards to our best performing suppliers, franchisees and staff and generally entertaining us with his stories and anecdotes from his long career in football.

Spaces are limited, so please RSVP to Sally-Ann Johnson to confirm your attendance. Ticket prices are £130 + VAT per person which includes a drinks reception, three course lunch and wine at the table.

Meet our finance team

This month we are profiling our finance team – our fantastic ladies who make sure everyone gets paid on time (and try to ensure everone pays us on time!)

Ewelina Ciszek
Ewelina joined MA Group four months ago as Finance Manager. After completing an MsC (International Management) in 2006 in Poland she decided to travel for a while. In November 2006 she arrived in England and never left. She is studying hard and will soon be fully AAT qualified. She has two children, two dogs and five snakes, enjoys reading (Carlos Ruiz Zafon is one of her favourite authors), travelling and walks.

Heather Rix
Heather has worked for MA Group since 2009 so is one of our longest serving members of staff. She has over 35 years of experience in finance and, before joining MA Group, had many finance roles including senior cost accountant for a large construction company and many varied, self-employed finance roles for smaller companies When she isn’t at work she enjoys gardening, spending holidays in St Ives and has recently become a grandmother to a beautiful little girl.

Caroline Elmer
Caroline is our second longest serving member of staff having joined MA Group in 2003 when it was still part of a spanish group called Mulitassistencia. She has been instrumental in helping the company grow from being a loss-making spanish owned subsidiary to a very profitable UK group of companies. Within that time she has seen a lot of changes and has dealt with them all with her usual calm and unflappable manner. She enjoys reading fantasy fiction and loves movies and spending time with her niece, taking her swimming and on walks. She also has an adorable cat called Copper.

Mandie Treadwell
Since joining MA Group nearly five years ago Mandie has studied hard and passed her AAT Levels 2 and 3 exams and hopes to start studying for Level 4 next year. She has 16 years of experience in finance and used to run a pub until 2007. She loves to watch the horse racing and is extremely excited to be going to Barbados in November to celebrate her 50th birthday where she she will be watching the racing at the Garrison Savannah. In her spare time she likes to read and watch crime thrillers, and loves walking her two dogs (although the walk always seem to end up at her local pub).

Valerie Batey
Val has worked for MA Group for over six years and says she “still loves it!”. She has over 25 years of experience in finance and passed her AAT Level 2 exams earlier this year. She also has an HNC (Higher National Certificate) in business and finance. Outside of work Val is a very busy lady – not only is she landlady of a local pub in Aylesbury but she is also learning to ride a motor bike, likes to spend time with family and friends, enjoys watching Marvel films with her teenage son and going on nice walks with her husband and their German Shepard, Elvis. Val is also a grandmother to a little girl who is now 18 months old.

Trudie McKenzie
Trudie joined MA Group in April 2019 and has six years of finance experience with us and in the hospitality industry. She really enjoys the daily challenges of working in MA Group‘s finance department and the fact that no day is ever the same. Trudie has a degree in fashion promotion & imaging and has a keen interest in arts & design. In her spare time she enjoys making her own homemade products such as hair oils, bath soaps and body scrubs.

MA Group MAD Awards

We had two MAD winners in July – Geof Loe and Marc Etchells were equally MAD but for very different reasons.

Geof is our Health, Safety & Technical Manager and he received the following glowing feedback from one of our client’s Supply Chain Managers following a tricky health and safety investigation that he carried out:

“Just off the phone with Geof Loe, he is invaluable.  I remember life without Geof on this account and it’s like night and day. I wanted to recognise what Geof brings – knowledge, value, confidence, trust, a plan of action and outcome focussed.”

Marc is our Procurement Manager and has been doing a sterling job with extra training for suppliers on Pulse, leading a project to improve the capacity on the south coast of England, as well as looking at ways we can introduce scoping best practice training for inexperienced suppliers when pricing works.

Well done MAD men, keep up the good work.

For August Paige Wellstood was the MADdest member of staff.

Even though she has only been with us for a matter of weeks, she has already been signed off as competent for opening claims, dealing with emails and doing approvals within the HNW team.

She has also received a compliment from a customer for her empathy and understanding and her ability to clearly explain the role of MA Assist other parties involved in the claim. The customer said he would report back to the insurer that Paige at MA Assist has dealt with his queries perfectly, provided clarity on the process and that MA Assist is a company that knows how to deal with customers.

Well done Paige, keep up the great work.
